Talking Dictionary is a speech enabled encyclopedic dictionary that can be used with or without a screen reader. The dictionary contains over 250,000 words, including historical figures, slang and jargon. Thanks to this built-in speech option the program suits perfectly for visually impaired or blind computer users. The program offers Select voice feature enabling users to choose between three voices and Voice speed feature, with the help of which users can adjust the most favourable speed of pronouncing words. Besides, users can easily adjust text size from larger to smaller. The program is very convenient and easy-to-use: just type the word you want to look up, press the "Enter" key and the dictionary will search for the word in its database. After finding the word, it will automatically speak out its first definition. In addition, it will indicate a part of speech of the word and a list of its synonyms which you also can hear by pressing F4 button. We should especially point out Crossword function of this dictionary that helps to find words with up to three letters missing. The program will offer a list of alternative words to the unknown word or to the word with missing or mixed letters. Another useful feature is that Talking Dictionary can be used as a spell checker within any text editing program (Microsoft Word, WordPad, etc.). Just highlight the word and press Control F11, and the dictionary will show up with a list of definitions, synonyms and spell check alternatives if the spelling of the word was incorrect.
